Connect an external keyboard to bypass the onscreen keyboard.
Every text field on the touchscreen brings up an on-screen keyboard. It's consistent across every dialog with debounce protection so a tap registers once instead of three times (touchscreens love to double-register, getting this right took me longer than I'd like to admit).
If you want a real keyboard, there is a dedicated keyboard USB port on the side and it just works. The two are interchangeable: you can start typing on the keyboard and finish on the screen if you want, with no mode to switch and no setting to enable.
The place this really matters is when you need to enter case (or operation) information, create user accounts, and, last but not least, enter network credentials. ;)
The on-screen keyboard is right for short entries, but anything complex or lengthy becomes challenging on a small touchscreen keyboard. Connecting a USB keyboard solves that issue.
Seems like a small thing but it makes a big difference.
One thing to keep in mind is that the power output for the USB keyboard is 500 mA, so a keyboard with LEDs may have issues powering on. I prefer using a wireless keyboard dongle. I can leave it positioned in the unit, and most of the power for the keyboard comes from the battery in the keyboard.
